Additional funding of €500,000 was allocated to the Southern Health Board under the cardiovascular health strategy in April this year. The funding will allow the board to begin establishing consultant-led cardiology services for patients in Kerry. It will also be used to develop the Southern Health Board's cardiac rehabilitation services and expand its first responder project, in which members of rural communities are trained and equipped to respond effectively to a cardiac event.
I am advised by the Southern Health Board that a consultant cardiologist post joint appointment, in partnership with Kerry General Hospital and Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee, has been advertised and that interviews for this post are currently being arranged.
