Detailed design has been undertaken by the Mid-Western Health Board for the proposed dementia unit for St. Ita's Hospital, Newcastle West, County Limerick, and the project is now at pre-construction stage. It has been indented in my Department's capital investment framework 2004-08. The question of giving approval to the board to invite tenders is being considered by my Department, in conjunction with the Mid-Western Health Board, in the context of progressing new capital commitments under the framework, taking account of the overall funding resources required in respect of each project. My Department will continue to work closely with the board to advance the project.
