My Department has received a request to consider the designation of Newcastle Lough, Kells, County Meath, as a natural heritage area under the Wildlife Acts.

My Department is currently arranging for an ecological survey and-or assessment of the site to be carried out. The results of this should be available early in 2005, following which the question of designation will be determined.
