Question 430: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of deportations of non-national parents of Irish citizens since the Supreme Court decision of 2003; the number of Irish citizen children who have left the State with their parents as a result of such deportations; and the number of Irish citizen children left behind in the State by their non-national parents as a result of such deportations. Statistics in respect of the number of deportations of non-national parents of Irish born children since the Supreme Court decision in the L&O case in January 2003 are as follows:
Month | Year | Number of parents of Irish born children deported |
February | 2003 | 2 |
April | 2003 | 1 |
May | 2003 | 4 |
July | 2003 | 4 |
August | 2003 | 4 |
September | 2003 | 1 |
October | 2003 | 1 |
February | 2004 | 2 |
March | 2004 | 4 |
April | 2004 | 4 |
August | 2004 | 5 |
Statistics are only maintained by my Department in respect of deportation orders made and effected in respect of non-nationals. As Irish born children are not subject to deportation orders, statistics are not available in respect of the numbers of such children who accompanied their non-national parents when they were being deported or, indeed, the number of such children left behind in the State following the deportation of their parents.
