Question 381: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if her Department will investigate the guidelines for the home improvement scheme for the elderly that is operated by the South West Area Health Board to permit same to encompass the disabled person's grant as operated by local authorities; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The special scheme of housing aid for the elderly is administered by the health boards on behalf of the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. The disabled person's grants scheme is the responsibility of the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government. I understand from that Department that a review of the operation of the disabled person's grants scheme is being finalised in the Department. The relationship between the disabled persons and essential repairs grant schemes and the special scheme of housing aid for the elderly is also being considered by that Department in the context of this review.
