Under section 24 of the Local Government Act 2001, every person whose name is on the register of local government electors for a local electoral area is entitled to vote at a local election poll in that area. A person, irrespective of nationality, is entitled to be registered as a local government elector if he or she has reached the age of 18 years and is ordinarily resident in the local government area.
