I welcome Her Excellency Ambassador van der Weydon from Sweden to the Distinguished Visitors’ Gallery to mark the national day of Sweden, which commemorates Gustav Vasa becoming king in 1523. That is not today or yesterday. The new government formed in 1809 and Swedish national day comes during the midsummer festival. Sweden picks a good time of the year for its national day. I want to especially thank the ambassador for her work on human rights when she was working with the United Nations representing Sweden. She did important work then and now. Ireland and Sweden share many common causes, including our membership of the European Union and our support for the United Nations. Human rights around the world is another platform we share together. On this your Sweden's national day, glad nationaldag, ambassador. Thank you for being here.
