I have received notice from Senator Colm Burke that, on the motion for the Commencement of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government to make available detailed information on the total amount of commercial rates collected by each local authority and to state if he proposes to carry out a review of value for money in respect of the expenditure of each local authority and the services it provides.

I have also received notice from Senator Paul Gavan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade to comment on reports that munitions being used by Saudi Arabia for indiscriminate bombing of civilians in Yemen may have been transported by US military aircraft through Shannon Airport and that US military mid-air refuelling planes that passed through Shannon Airport in June 2016 may have been used to refuel the Saudi Arabian aircraft involved.

I have also received notice from Senator Michelle Mulherin of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment to find and implement a formula for the redistribution of surplus salmon stocks where they exist in our rivers and estuaries for the public good, as envisioned by the report of the independent salmon group in 2006 and to consider a pilot project for the river Moy, which would allow local restaurants and hotels to have wild salmon on their menus and support the local tourism industry, particularly as Fáilte Ireland has identified the significance of angling tourism in Ballina, which has branded the salmon capital of Ireland and in other towns in east Mayo.

I have also received notice from Senator Martin Conway of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs to outline her plans to provide funding to local authorities for the construction of new playgrounds and the retrofitting and upgrading of existing ones which are in need of repair and refurbishment and if the provision of such financial support is conditional on the playgrounds being designed to allow children with various disabilities to access the equipment.

I have also received notice from Senator Kieran O’Donnell of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to provide an update on plans for the M20 motorway from Cork to Limerick.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion. I have selected Senators Burke, Gavan, Mulherin and Conway and they will be taken now. Senator O’Donnell may give notice on another day of the matters he wishes to raise.

I welcome Councillor Thornhill from Wicklow to the Gallery. He is a Skibbereen man and I hope he enjoys his day in the House.
