EU Directive on Right to Information in Criminal Proceedings: Motion.

I move:

That the proposal that Seanad Éireann approves the exercise by the State of the option or discretion under Protocol No. 21 on the position of the United Kingdom and Ireland in respect of the area of freedom, security and justice annexed to the Treaty on European Union and to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, to take part in the adoption and application of the following proposed measure:

Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the right to information in criminal proceedings,

a copy of which was laid before Seanad Éireann on 26th August, 2010, be referred to the Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Women's Rights in accordance with paragraph (1) (Seanad) of the Orders of Reference of that Committee, which, not later than 19th October, 2010, shall send a message to the Seanad in the manner prescribed in Standing Order 72, and Standing Order 74(2) shall accordingly apply.
