Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (No. 2) Bill 2009: Motion for Early Signature

I move:

That pursuant to subsection 2° of section 2 of Article 25 of the Constitution, Seanad Éireann concurs with the Government in a request to the President to sign the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (No. 2) Bill 2009 on a date which is earlier than the fifth day after the date on which the Bill shall have been presented to her.

The Government has cut the pay of public sector workers who will return to work in the first week of January, whereas Deputies and Senators will not return to the House until the third week of the month, having taken their holidays one week before everyone else.
