I have received notice from Senator Nicky McFadden that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to outline her plans to retrain and upskill the people of Longford and Westmeath in order that they can meet the competitive challenges of the economic downturn.

I have also received notice from Senator Fidelma Healy Eames of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to outline the way in which he will financially support the Galway city-based families who have suffered as a result of the lead water services network in the city.

I have also received notice from Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to sanction the go-ahead for the PE hall at Pobalscoil Gaoth Dobhair.

I have also received notice from Senator Cecilia Keaveney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to discuss with his Northern counterpart, Mr. Empey, the rise in student fees proposed by universities in the North and the implications for Border students.

I have also received notice from Senator Maurice Cummins of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to outline the steps the Courts Service has taken to provide urgent temporary court accommodation in Waterford city; and if two temporary courtrooms will be provided in early 2009 to alleviate the current inadequate facilities at Waterford courthouse, Catherine Street, Waterford.

I regard the matters raised by Senators McFadden, Healy Eames, Ó Domhnaill and Keaveney as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators McFadden, Healy Eames and Ó Domhnaill and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Keaveney may give notice on another day of the matter she wishes to raise. I regret that I have to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Cummins as the Minister has no official responsibility in the matter.
