I have notice from Senator John Paul Phelan that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to clarify, with regard to St. Mary's primary school, Church of Ireland, Royal Oak Road, Bagenalstown, County Carlow, when funding will be made available for commencement of construction of this premises given that the school has awaited this funding for in excess of two years.

I have also received notice from Senator Paschal Donohoe of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to become directly involved in the provision of resident-only car parking and park and ride schemes for residential areas near major sporting stadia.

I have also received notice from Senator Cecilia Keaveney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to outline the reason so many years after the peace process has commenced that routine security checks are being pressed on all those using the Foyle car ferry and his views on how this equates with the demise of Border road checks.

I have also received notice from Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources to clarify when it is planned to commence the implementation of the national broadband scheme and the length of time it will take to have the service made available to areas of the country that do not have broadband provision currently, including parts of County Donegal.

I have also received notice from Senator Nicky McFadden of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to approve the application for top-up funding on essential repairs grants and disabled persons grants made by Westmeath County Council.

I have also received notice from Senator Fidelma Healy Eames of the following matter:

In view of the ongoing concerns regarding Galway city's public water supply and the health effects of contaminated water the need for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to outline the measures and the oversight he has put in place to guarantee safe drinking water for the people of Galway city and county, and to outline his plans for the clean-up of the very polluted Lough Corrib, the original source of Galway city and county water.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Phelan, Donohoe, Keaveney, Ó Domhnaill and McFadden as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Phelan, Donohoe and Keaveney and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The remaining Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise. I regret I have had to rule out of order the matter raised by Senator Healy Eames as it is repetitious.

On a point of information, last Thursday matters on the Adjournment submitted by Senators were deferred. I understood the Cathaoirleach rightly deferred the matters from Wednesday to Thursday on the understanding that those for Thursday would be taken today.

They must be resubmitted.

Had they been resubmitted, I would have given preference to the Senators who lost out on the day in question. There may have been a misunderstanding.

That is okay.
