I have received notice from Senator Ciaran Cannon that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to give a report on the up-to-date position regarding the provision of a new second level school in Kinvara, County Galway, in particular on the progress being made by the Office of Public Works in identifying and acquiring a site for the school.

I have also received notice from Senator Frances Fitzgerald of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to prioritise the extension and refurbishment of St. Brigid's national school, Palmerstown, Dublin 20, in light of the very poor existing conditions for students and staff and the lengthy period the school has waited for such refurbishment and to provide details of when he expects such work to commence.

I have also received notice from Senator Shane Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to expand educational development to increase the numbers of non-denominational schools, thus avoiding the reinforcing of sectarian divides by separating children according to denominations during their core school hours.

I have also received notice from Senator Nicky McFadden of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to approve the application for top-up funding made by Westmeath County Council.

I have also received notice from Senator John Paul Phelan of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to clarify, with regard to St. Mary's primary school, Church of Ireland, Royal Oak Road, Bagnelstown, County Carlow, when funding will be made available for commencement of construction of this premises given that the school has awaited this funding for in excess of two years.

I have also received notice from Senator Pearse Doherty of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to state whether, in relation to Scoil Chonaill Naofa, Bunbeg, County Donegal, which applied for an extension 11 years ago, an electrical contractor has concluded that the electrics are extremely unsafe, there is no fire alarm system in the school and the electrical consumer board does not have proper tripping protection.

I regard the matters raised by Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Cannon, Fitzgerald and Ross and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The remaining Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
