I have received notice from Senator Ulick Burke that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to restore to the many schools in County Galway the disadvantaged status which has been withdrawn due to the change in the criteria for selection and as a result have lost out on the many beneficial supports necessary to provide a comprehensive education system.

I have also received notice from Senator White of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to address the pressing need and compelling case for a university in the south east region by upgrading Waterford Institute of Technology's designation to that of a university, given that such a move would boost economic development in that region.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment to ensure 130 jobs at Premier Foods in Thurles are not jeopardised by a decision of the Competition Authority.

I have also received notice from Senator Bannon of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources to provide an update on the action the Government is taking to prevent the closure of rural post offices and to ensure their viability by including agricultural as well as social welfare payments through the post office network.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Ulick Burke, White and O'Meara and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Bannon may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
