I ask the Leader for a debate on United Nations Security Resolution 1325. The Government launched its national action plan on this two months ago. This ground-breaking resolution calls on all nation states to implement policies at home and abroad that reflect women's experience of conflict and enable them to access formal peace-building processes. I acknowledge the work of Hanna's House Alliance which is bringing this resolution to the fore. We should have a debate on the matter in the House with the Minister. It is important that we advance the resolution as quickly as possible. I commend the Government's initiative on a minimum of 30% of candidates in general elections being women. We have not yet given up on having the same quota for local elections. I would like a debate on United Nations Security Resolution 1325 in order to put the advancement of women's experience of conflict on the agenda of this House. Women have been written out of history on this island for far too long and we want to ensure their experience of conflict is written into history.
