I am glad to have an opportunity to comment on the Private Members' motion before us. I welcome the political discussion we are having. It would be preferable to have the discussion in the form of statements than a debate on a Private Members' motion. The attempted provocation by Fianna Fáil Senators is amusing. It must be difficult for the Fianna Fáil Party even to dream up a Private Members' motion. It was in government for the past 14 or 15 years and had numerous opportunities to deal with these issues.
