We are seeing a continuation of the confusion that exists between the Government and the banks when it comes to exerting authority. This is a serious situation. The Minister for Finance is struggling to exert his control. We discussed these very matters during our debate on the National Asset Management Agency Bill 2009. There is confusion over the cap on salaries and it appears that AIB has ignored the Minister's request that banking chiefs should not be appointed from the existing pool of directors.
