Disability Bill 2004: Report Stage.

2:00 pm

Margaret Cox (Fianna Fail)

I have had conversations and discussions with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Ireland and with Senator Dooley, who is not present but has asked me to raise the point on his behalf. Under this amendment pertaining to the definition of disability and to give them a sense of security, can the Minister of State again provide clarification to multiple sclerosis sufferers that they are covered in the Bill's definition? Although he covered this in great depth on Committee Stage, multiple sclerosis sufferers fear the definition is not sufficiently broad to cover them because they regard themselves as having an enduring condition which may go into remission for many years, but which is incurable. I take this opportunity to ask the Minister of State to clarify that point.
