It seems to me that this response off-loads the issue to Europe, freeing the Department of Agriculture from responsibility for the effects that Round Up is currently having on the digestive tracts of Irish citizens. It is not cancer that is the main issue here, but Gluten-Intolerance and debilitating conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which are currently reaching pandemic levels in Irish teenagers, particularly in girls at that crucial age of Leaving Cert study and University entrance. IBS and other digestive disorders caused by Round Up crop desiccation are currently costing the Department of Health millions of euro. The consequences for those suffering from this condition are miserable. How sad that Ireland can not take a braver stand, and regulate for the sake of its own citizens against the widespread use of Round Up.
For further clear evidence of the consequences of this policy, I recommend the following article, and a visit to your local supermarket, where the levels of gluten-free produce will freely attest to the levels of IBS rampant in Irish society.
