Members will be aware that last weekend marked the 90th anniversary commemoration of the Holodomor famine in the Ukraine during which many millions died. On the initiative of the Ceann Comhairle, it has been decided to have a minute's silence. I invite Members during that minute's silence to take cognisance of the fact since May of this year, estimates of the number of people across the world who will experience crisis levels of hunger in 2022 has risen from 181 million people in 41 countries to 345 million. The G7 states that 323 million people are on the brink of starvation. One person was dying from hunger every 48 seconds in May; it is now one every 36 seconds. In that context, I ask Members to stand for a minute's silence to commemorate a specific famine.

Members rose.
