Election of Leas-Cheann Comhairle: Motion

Before the break I should have asked someone to move No. a6, motion re election of Leas-Cheann Comhairle. Will the Taoiseach move the motion?

I move:

That, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders, or in Schedule 2 to Standing Orders, that

(1) the election of a Leas-Cheann Comhairle as provided for in Standing Order 11 shall take place in the auditorium of the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) on North Wall Quay, Dublin 1, on Thursday 23rd July, 2020, and

(2) the following arrangements shall apply to that election, where there is more than one validly nominated candidate: (a) ballot papers shall be provided to members at locations in the environs of the auditorium designated by the Clerk;

(b) following contributions by candidates, the bells shall not be rung in accordance with Standing Order 6(9);

(c) members may mark their ballot papers while seated in the auditorium only;

(d) the ballot shall be declared closed at 10.15 a.m.: Provided that the Clerk may, at his discretion, extend the time the ballot is open, and, if he does so, shall make an announcement accordingly to the House; and

(e) where the Clerk declares the ballot closed before 10.30 a.m., the sitting shall be suspended until 10.30 a.m.
