Before proceeding to the Topical Issue debate, I wish to announce to the Dáil that today I received a letter of resignation from Deputy Brian Walsh, who is a Member of Dáil Éireann for the constituency of Galway West, and I will lay the letter before the Dáil. In accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 174, the resignation takes effect upon my receipt of the letter of resignation.

I am sure I speak on behalf of everybody in this Chamber in wishing Deputy Walsh well for the future. I thank him for this service to the House as a public representative and also for his assistance to me, as Ceann Comhairle, through his membership of the panel of temporary Chairs. I wish him and his family every success in the future. He will be sadly missed in public life in this country. He served as a member of Galway City Council - as far as I remember he was mayor of Galway. His public service has been second to none and he was, of course, a very good Deputy in this House.
