I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy O'Shea — the need to upgrade Waterford Institute of Technology to university status; (2) Deputy Costello — the need for the Minister to address the serious problem of illegal fireworks in the rush up to Hallowe'en; (3) Deputy Sargent — that the Minister ensure that the steep rise in demand for school places in the fast growing communities in Fingal be matched with necessary classroom space, additional staff and necessary resources and that discussions take place with the school principals and boards of management so that best practice in terms of enrolment policy can be established in all schools taking into account that, for example, Balbriggan Educate Together National School (Roll No. 20202A) rose in numbers from 53 pupils on 30 September 2005 to 84 by the end of the school year and that as a new school such dramatic changes need attention from the Department above and beyond what is normal; (4) Deputy Broughan — the urgent need for the Minister to introduce legislation to prevent the discontinuance of essential telecommunications services and contracts without warning to households and business consumers; (5) Deputy Gormley — the need for the Minister to introduce legislation to ensure that a proper local post office network is maintained in our cities and rural areas and that all houses have access to broadband services to allow post office services to be conducted on-line; and (6) Deputy Howlin — the refusal of the Minister to accede to the request that she accept the recommendation of the transport liaison officer for County Wexford and of County Wexford Deputies on a cross-party basis to appoint a senior inspector to review and certify the school transport catchment boundary areas in County Wexford.
