I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the deaths of five citizens in the first three weeks of this year in so called gangland gun attacks, and in view of the recent surge in organised crime across a range of criminal activity the need for the Government to sanction promotions and appointments within the Garda Síochána, especially given that senior figures in the Garda Síochána have retired whose positions have not been filled and having regard to the retirement of almost 800 gardaí of varying rank in the past 12 months and the need for concerted action on the part of Government to deal with this matter.
