National Asset Management Agency Bill 2009: Report Stage (Resumed) and Final Stage
11:00 am
Ciarán Lynch (Cork South Central, Labour)
Mortgage interest supplement has doubled since 2007. It has increased by 200%. The Minister for Finance told us on the night he introduced the bank guarantee scheme that the fundamentals were sound, a mantra that has been stated again and again. The same mantra is being applied to the issue of mortgage debt in this country. The fundamentals are far from sound. It may be that one million mortgages have been drawn down, but thousands of people in this country are in fear of having their homes repossessed. I call on the Minister to accept the Labour Party amendment.
