Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32
10:30 am
James Bannon (Longford-Westmeath, Fine Gael)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to discuss a matter of national importance; namely, the inequality in our society that sees old age pensioners who, in many cases, can barely afford to eat or heat their homes, and those who are unemployed due to the fallout of the economic crisis caused by Government mismanagement of the economy facing a possible reduction in their entitlements to social welfare, as unemployment figures rise by the minute, with the June figures reaching 12% and, according to the Taoiseach, expected to reach 15% by the end of the year; yet some members of our society are still refusing to share the pain.
