Ar an cheist chéanna, ba mhaith liom cead a lorg an Dáil a chur ar athló chun ceist ríthábhachtach náisiúnta práinneach a phlé, is é sin, in light of the €40 million plus of taxpayers' money wasted by the Government on the Thornton Hall super prison folly to date, the urgent need for the Government to finally accept that public private partnerships, PPPs, are unsuitable for the delivery of social projects, be they in the field of justice, housing or health; the need to focus now on addressing the Dickensian aspects of our existing prison stock and to urgently bring forward further legislative and policy measures to remove as many non-violent offenders from the prison system as possible in order to address overcrowding and the resulting risks to the health, safety and lives of prisoners and prison staff; and, in addition, to call off the move of the Central Mental Hospital.
