Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32
11:00 am
James Bannon (Longford-Westmeath, Fine Gael)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the threat to the country's 2.1 million workers caused by the sharp increase in work-related deaths, which jumped by almost one third in 2007 to 67, from a figure of 51 in 2006, and 31 workers deaths being recorded already this year according to the Health and Safety Authority, particularly in regard to the high level of fatalities in the fishing, farming and construction sectors, with the Government failing to address the overall high incidence or provide adequate protection structures.
