Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32
10:30 am
James Bannon (Longford-Westmeath, Fine Gael)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the threat of closure of our unique boglands, with the ensuing loss of an essential part of our heritage and the huge implications for employment of our turf-cutters, many generations of whom made their livelihoods from cutting turf in rural Ireland as others do to the present day; and the adverse economic impact and the environmental threat to flora and fauna native to such bogs.
