I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the need for the Taoiseach to urgently appoint a new senior counsel to investigate the Stardust tragedy in Artane as the families of the victims have no confidence in the current appointment. Some of the families of the victims have contacted me. They are upset and angry that a junior counsel on the Garda legal team in 1981 was appointed to head up a new inquiry into the Stardust tragedy. The families of the victims are looking for the immediate appointment of a new independent senior counsel with no connection to the original inquiry. I would be grateful if the Taoiseach could accept their wishes and appoint somebody new to head up this important inquiry.
