I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the announcement by SIPTU that it is to serve strike notice on the HSE on behalf of its 1,200 emergency ambulance workers, following the unilateral decision of the HSE to sign contracts with three private ambulance operators last December, which, of course, is a continuation of the Government's agenda for the privatisation of the health service; the need for proper consultation with SIPTU as representatives of the workers in this case; and the need for this Government to account to this House as to why it has not invested in the emergency ambulance service but instead has chosen to contract out ambulance services to private firms.
