Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32
3:00 pm
Denis Naughten (Roscommon-South Leitrim, Fine Gael)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, that in light of a decision taken by HSE West to close two therapy units at St. Bridget's Psychiatric Hospital in Ballinasloe last Friday and to suspend two members of staff in the units yesterday without due process and without putting an alternative treatment strategy in place, which will have a direct impact on patient care and rehabilitation, there is an urgent need for the Minister for Health and Children to take a direct interest in the treatment of people with a psychiatric illness and to ensure that the best possible treatments are immediately made available to people in Roscommon-east Galway area, which is serviced by the hospital.
