I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to debate the following urgent matter: the need for the Government, the EU and its member Governments to engage with the members of ASEAN to advance the demands by the international community for the opening of dialogue with the democratic forces in Burma, to prevent the brutal suppression of those peacefully demonstrating for change, establish respect for human rights and make a beginning to such a dialogue as will respect the democratic will of the people of Burma, including its indigenous peoples. In view of the importance of this issue the Ceann Comhairle should agree to this request and I urge the Government to save time later by granting Government time for such a debate.
