Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31
10:30 am
Tom Hayes (Tipperary South, Fine Gael)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the arbitrary and inflexible criteria for teacher allocation numbers in primary schools, one example being Bansha national school which recently lost a teacher because of the Department's inflexible teacher allocation model and despite the fact that the village is set to grow in population due to new housing developments. There is an urgent need for a new model to be introduced where more wide-ranging factors than figures on a page determine the teacher allocation model in our schools and where the local authority is given greater input.
