Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31

10:30 am

Paudge Connolly (Cavan-Monaghan, Independent)

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of urgent public and national concern, namely, the likely disenfranchisement of thousands of third level students in the forthcoming general election due to their inability to return to vote in their home constituencies on polling day, signalled by the Taoiseach to take place on a Thursday; the discrimination against and the alienation of the college population, many of whom will be voting for the first time, by requiring students to travel to the farthest reaches of the country to vote; and to call on the Minister to provide polling stations on third level campuses to ensure maximum participation by students in the democratic process.
