I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, to allow time for the Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children to explain his comments on waiting lists for mental health and other health services; to explain how there can be an equality of service nationally when there is a de facto embargo on recruitment of staff, the results of which are disproportionately felt by rapidly expanding communities; what he and the Minister for Health and Children are doing to overcome the long waiting lists that exist in some parts of the country in critical services, such as the psychiatric services, together with occupational speech and language and other front line therapy services.
