Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31

10:30 am

Paudge Connolly (Cavan-Monaghan, Independent)

I wish to propose the Adjournment of Dáil Éireann under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of urgent public concern, namely, the future funding of Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre in County Monaghan, which is operated by County Monaghan VEC. The centre has acquired a tremendous reputation for the provision of services to over 10,000 customers from north and south of the Border. They are currently mainly primary and second level students, and their numbers have increased over the past two years by 43% and 11% respectively. There is a proven need for new premises to enhance existing services and provide new activities at the centre. A five-acre site in nearby Dartrey Wood is available at a most attractive price agreed with Coillte and I call on the Minister for Education and Science to provide the sanction required to purchase that property, together with the modest sum of €160,000 needed to secure the centre's future.
