I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance: to ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he will immediately review his directions to the Commission for Energy Regulation, CER, in advance of the imminent massive price hikes of 34% for gas from next Sunday and 19.4% for electricity early next year; if he will ensure the needs of consumers are adequately taken into account in energy pricing policy; what measures he intends to bring forward to address the increase in fuel and energy poverty as a result of the massive inflation in energy prices that has occurred during the last nine years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
