Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.
11:00 am
Séamus Healy (Tipperary South, Independent)
I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the outrageous decision of the Minister for Finance to abolish the €100 million bank levy in view of today's announcement of super-profits of €1.7 billion by Allied Irish Banks. This €100 million levy could have been used, for instance, to employ 2,000 gardaí to stamp out anti-social behaviour or tackle the carnage on the roads, or to address educational disadvantage by implementing the McIver report recommendation to staff and fund further education in post-leaving certificate colleges and by properly funding the vocational training opportunities scheme, Youthreach and adult education. I ask the Minister to make a statement on the matter.
