Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

10:30 am

Paudge Connolly (Cavan-Monaghan, Independent)

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter of urgent, public and national concern, namely, the necessity, in this men's cancer awareness week, to increase awareness among the male population of the urgent importance of making better use of preventative and primary care services at an earlier stage to promote early detection of cancer given that 6,500 men in Ireland are diagnosed with the most common male cancers annually — prostate, colorectal bowel and testicular cancer — the need to encourage men in all age groups to attend their general practitioner for regular check-ups or body NCTs even when they feel perfectly healthy and thus improve their long-term survival rates and, similar to national wills week, advocate the incentive of an annual free male medical check-up to coincide with men's cancer week.
