I wish to seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise the following matter of urgent national importance: the need for the Minister for Social and Family Affairs to double the winter fuel allowance payable to social welfare recipients in view of the recent 25% increase in the price of gas from 1 October and the fact that the €9 fuel allowance will not now even buy a bag of coal, which costs €12.50.
