Yes, people were using AI. When people use AI in papers, they generally use it in order to write an abstract or to support the paper a little bit. I am an inveterate optimist. It is used positively where, for example, people for whom English is not their first language try to create a better way to put their papers. While some people use it incorrectly and get caught out, people will not generate new knowledge with AI.
