Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation
Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Businesses: Discussion (Resumed)
Mr. Ryan Meade:
This is relevant to the Deputy's previous question too. There is a thing called the global frontier framework, which is a collaborative process which a number of our companies are involved in and engaging with governments on to address the question of the safety risks that arise as frontier models develop, become more capable and potentially create new use cases that were not anticipated or could potentially be unsafe. It is a live conversation. It is quite collaborative at the moment, which is good. Different industry players are coming forward with their own principles, frameworks and so on, and engaging in that conversation. The first point the Deputy made was about regulation in a particular region being sufficient. He is absolutely right. Global co-operation on these topics will be important. There are a couple of competing visions for that. Some people see it as a geopolitical competition. Others see it as a more collaborative approach. We would try to encourage collaboration as much as possible because that is ultimately what is required.
