Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Businesses: Discussion (Resumed)
Mr. Jeremy Rollison:
The authority initiated contact, and we have had dialogues since the outset. Even prior to its establishment, there was engagement in terms of whether it was within the scope of the AI Act and requirements to set up national competent bodies. Member states have a degree of discretion in how they do that. They can leverage existing bodies or set up new bodies. Spain moved pretty quickly in this regard. We look at that positively because it is one group that can help to navigate the other groups and bring them together. It would be impossible to say who initiated what. Much of how the engagement evolved was through a conversation of which we certainly have been a part.
Most recently, the Spanish authority asked us some of the same questions I have heard here today. How can we do more to clarify some of the rules? What are the opportunities for SMEs, in particular, in Spain? How can generative AI help to navigate some of the bureaucratic hurdles?
Is there something positive we can say here in terms of generative AI filling in forms and the like? We are also trying to get a sense from the market of that high-risk discussion we talked about earlier. What is out there right now? How is it being used? Where should we categorise some of these things? It is still early days to a degree.
