In my submission, I raised some of the risks around the use of what is known as shadow IT. In the absence of a framework, it is known internationally that individual police officers will use available technology whether on their personal phones or not, so that is a danger. I will not speculate about what individual members of An Garda Síochána are doing but that is a big risk. Having this opportunity to take forward a robust legal framework may be a better option than leaving that space open for unregulated use. That is certainly a danger in that regulation gap.
