Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community

Múnlú ár dTodhchaí Dátheangaigh agus Seirbhísí Poiblí Dátheangacha: Fondúireacht Eolaíochta Éireann

Dr. Ciar?n Seoighe:

I would think strongly that would be likely to happen because there will not be another SFI plan, by all accounts, because SFI and the Irish Research Council will be merging into a new entity next year. That changes things quite substantially because whereas SFI’s remit today is in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, STEM, area, the future is on a much broader remit where the Irish language, and its direct funding in respect of the arts, humanities and social science, will be part of the new agency. On that basis, it will have a much stronger footing.
