Múnlú ár dTodhchaí Dátheangaigh agus Seirbhísí Poiblí Dátheangacha: Fondúireacht Eolaíochta Éireann

Dr. Ciar?n Seoighe:

They are. The other question is whether this is done internally in our organisation or externally. There are two aspects to what we do. We have many things which we have to push, from climate to research, and from learnings to electronic data interchange. There is a great deal which we try to push in there.

At a minimum we know that we will need to meet our obligations. We will do and are doing that. Beyond that, much of this comes from personal interest. As we survey people, some people just do not want to engage with the language. Some have had experiences which put them off over the course of time. As I have said, the vast majority of the organisation is keen to do this. That is a starting point for us. The fact that we will go out there, will ask the question and will try to understand where we start; that is how we approach things as scientists. We are naturally orientated towards data. We ask where is our starting point and where do we have strength right now. Once we know this, it forms the basis of our journey from here on in. That is why we do this.

We are quite inspired by some of our own board members. Máire Geoghegan-Quinn is a board member and is a person who puts me to shame every time I meet her with the Irish she has. She inspires us to do that and to engage further with our organisation in Irish too. We now know where we stand. We know what the level of interest is which is a basis of our going forward. From there we will try to push it forward, as we can. We also know that we have to hit all of our obligations too and some of those are still in progress.
