Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine

General Scheme of the Agricultural and Food Supply Chain Bill 2022: Discussion

Mr. Arnold Dillon:

I do not think that is a fair characterisation. We have raised a number of issues about the UTP list but there are very good reasons for the position we set out in terms of not expanding the current list of ten black UTPs and six grey UTPs. This is not simply due to retail interest. There are other supplier interests, for example, when it comes to the grey UTPs, that see such activity as being commercially beneficial to both parties. There is also compelling consumer interest in this regard. I do not see the perspectives that we bring to the debate as being exclusive to retail but broadly, they are supported by other parties in the supply chain.
