Vaginal Mesh Implants: Discussion
Ms Terri Martin:
Ten people injured by mesh went to Cork for the training of consultants on the translabial scanner. The scan was done. As far as we were concerned, the service was up and running from that point and everybody was trained on it.
I received correspondence from the Minister. He was under the impression that the one in Holles Street is up and running. However, the patients attending Holles Street have been told they cannot be referred to Cork. The scanner they have up there is having technical problems. It is not up and running but the Government believes it has been running since 1 September 2021.
I approached a consultant in Cork and asked about the translabial scanner. I was told to tell the ladies to get a referral down to him and they would see what could be done, but there is nothing at the moment.
