Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action

Sectoral Emissions Ceilings: Discussion

Dr. Aoife O'Grady:

It may develop further but the charging infrastructure requirements for vehicles such as cars, vans and motorbikes - the Italian-type scooter as opposed to the electric scooter we might talk about - is very different from that required of electric bikes and scooters. Their infrastructure needs are much more aligned with sustainable mobility needs. The charging for them is not significant. The infrastructure being considered by the zero emissions vehicles Ireland, ZEVI, office would be that kind of large-scale charging infrastructure. My feeling is that the infrastructure challenge for electric scooters and bikes is much more on the sustainable mobility side than the electric charging side.
